| Manduca Sexta | Prior to assuming full time administrative responsibilities in 1995, my research program focused on characterizing the biochemistry and molecular biology of insect immune responses to bacterial infection in healthy and parasitized host larvae and pupae. Our research utilized larvae and pupae of the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta, as host; various bacterial pathogens and the parasitoid, Cotesia congregata. It is my hope that I will be able to rebuild a research program focused more narrowly on defensive responses of the insect gut to microbes during larval growth and larval-pupal metamorphosis, and on hemolymph and gut peptides induced in response to fungal infection. |
