Entomology and the science of learningMy research interests lie in finding more effective and efficient mechanisms and programs for the learning process. I am particularly interested in using insects as tools to enhance the learning process in science and other areas of knowledge.

Extension/Outreach Activities

I work extensively with K-12 teachers to use insects either for insect/biology science or to achieve educational objectives in other disciplines. Co-Founder of Bug Bowl


Courses Taught

Entomology 110Spider Biology. This course is an introduction to the basic biology, identification, and ecology of this extremely successful and widespread group of arthropods.
Entomology 217 Insects in Elementary Education. This laboratory class will provide sufficient skills and information about insects to encourage an elementary education teacher to comfortably and conveniently use insects in a classroom to achieve desired educational objectives.
Entomology 311 Insect Ecology. A general course on the roles of insects in ecosystems with emphasis on important characteristics of insects and insect populations.
Entomology 317 Insects in Agricultural Education. This laboratory class will provide sufficient information about insects to allow an Agricultural Education teacher to comfortably and conveniently use insects in a classroom to achieve educational objectives.
Entomology 515 Insecticides. Principles and practices of insecticide and other pesticide development, use, and misuse including legal issues, economic issues, and environmental considerations.
